80 research-based values cards for online coaching sessions.
Help clients discover what truly matters with our Values Cards Tool.

Why work with values?
Values guide decisions, shape behavior, and help us understand ourselves and others. They are the inner compass that points to what truly matters. When you help clients identify their values, you create clarity that goes deeper than any goal-setting exercise.
Self-Understanding
Values clarify what matters to you. When you know your values, decisions become easier and life feels more aligned.
Direction
Values reveal what matters most. When facing big decisions - career changes, relationships, life transitions - your values point the way forward.
Community
Shared values create the foundation for collaboration. Teams that understand their collective values work better together.
How to work with values cards in coaching
A simple yet powerful three-step framework for facilitating values exploration with your clients.

Choose values cards
Invite your client to browse through the 80 values cards and pick the ones that speak to them. Notice which cards spark immediate reactions - positive or negative. These reactions are valuable data.
Opening question:
"Which of these values make you think 'Yes, that's me' - and which ones are a clear 'No'?"

Explore values in context
Help your client connect chosen values to real situations. Where do they show up? When do they conflict? The most powerful insights come from linking abstract values to concrete experiences.
Deepening question:
"Tell me about a recent decision where this value played a role. What did that look like?"

Rank and prioritize
Guide your client to identify their top 3-5 values. The real insights emerge when choosing between two good options - 'freedom' vs. 'security', 'adventure' vs. 'belonging'. Don't rush this. The difficulty often reveals important inner tensions.
Prioritization question:
"If you could only honor one of these values in your next big decision, which would it be?"
Values work is never finished
Values can shift as life circumstances change. What mattered at 25 may differ at 45. Regular values check-ins help clients stay aligned with who they're becoming.
How to use values cards online with clients
Our interactive values card sort makes values work seamless in online coaching sessions. Here's the step-by-step process.

Choose a session template
metaFox.online offers several session templates with values-based content. Choose from templates that introduce values to your client, frame them in a coaching journey, or focus on specific decision-making scenarios.

Open the values cards tool
In your coaching session, open the shared whiteboard and click the tools menu. Select 'Values Cards' - all 80 research-based values cards are instantly available, organized by Schwartz's value categories.

Client browses and selects values
Your client browses through all 80 values cards at their own pace. They can filter by category or view all cards. As they find values that resonate, they click to select them. Selected cards are highlighted for easy tracking.

Facilitate values ranking
Selected values cards appear on your shared whiteboard. Guide your client to identify their top 3-5 values. Clustering similar values together can help reveal patterns. Use the spatial arrangement to create a visual hierarchy - the most important values at the center.

Connect values to real life
The transformation happens when abstract values meet concrete reality. Use annotation tools to explore where each value shows up in your client's life - and where it's missing. The gap between stated values and lived reality becomes visible and actionable.

The Schwartz Values Model
Our values cards are based on decades of cross-cultural research by psychologist Shalom H. Schwartz. His model, validated across 82 countries and more than 60,000 participants, reveals the universal structure behind human values - not pop psychology, but one of the most robust frameworks in cross-cultural psychology.
A values model ideal for coaching
Schwartz discovered that human values aren't random. They form a circular structure where adjacent values are compatible and opposing values conflict. This explains why someone who values 'tradition' might struggle with 'self-direction', or why 'achievement' sits comfortably next to 'power'. The model identifies 10 basic values organized in a circle - values close together support each other, values across from each other create tension. Understanding this structure helps you spot patterns in your client's values. If they select mostly values from one side of the circle, that reveals something. If their top values are opposites, that inner tension might be the source of their struggle.
